The Villa Conchi Gran Reserva Brut Nature 2018 is an absolute cracker of a cava— fresh, warm, and round, fruity but elegant, structured and silky from its long aging on the lees. But don’t take our word for it—listen to the 2024 International Wine Challenge judging panel, which awarded it the Spanish Sparkling Trophy. They described it as “fresh yet complex with a tapering finish,” highlighting the notes of spiced apple, tarte tatin, lemon, and acacia blossom and “nicely poised acidity.”
The Villa Conchi Cava range is named after winemaker Javier Ruiz de Galarreta’s mother “Conchi,” a great lover of sparkling wines that showed elegance and distinction. Javier was inspired to produce a particularly fresh and elegant Cava style as a personal tribute to his beloved mother. This range is grown and produced in Comtats de Barcelona, the best Spanish Cava-producing sub-region, and spends a minimum of 12 months in the bottle to reach the category of Cava de Guarda.
The Villa Conchi Gran Reserva Brut Nature 2018 was already classed as a Cava de Guarda Superior back when it surpassed the requirement of a minimum of 18 months in the bottle, and the ensuing years have been kind. Expect to pay twice as much for a champagne as good as the Villa Conchi Gran Reserva!
