The easy-drinking Santa Sofia Merlot Corvina has a delicate nose of blossoms, raspberries and black cherries and a fresh, crunchy palate with an excellent tannic structure offering hints of dried herbs, vanilla, anise and wood. The finish is pleasantly long and persistent.
Santa Sofia is located just north of Verona on the gentle slopes of the verdant Valpolicella Classico region and housed in the beautiful Villa Santa Sofia that was built back in 1560. The Begnoni family, who bought the villa along with its ancient cellars and vineyards in 1964, have worked to maintain the estate’s tradition of making approachable and elegant wines that represent the ancient Valpolicella terroir. Under their stewardship, Santa Sofia has gained a reputation which has seen it grow from a small, high-quality estate to one of the most significant realities in the Veronese winemaking world. The Santa Sofia Merlot Corvina is a great example of a highly approachable red, perfect with roasts and medium-aged cheeses.
