The Amaretti Virginia Cantucci are almond biscotti made using a traditional recipe to the company’s usual exacting standard. In Italy, cantuccini are traditionally served as a dessert or as a treat to accompany coffee and tea. Here they are presented in an exquisite tin ‘book’ featuring the nostalgic Amaretti Virginia image of a girl upending a box of sweets.
Amaretti Virginia was founded back in 1860 in beautiful Sassello, not far from Genoa. It first became famous for its fragrant Amaretti with their soft almond texture, with the bakery so well-known that it became a meeting place for locals and visitors alike and the square that it overlooked was referred to in postcards of the time as ‘Piazza degli Amaretti Virginia.’ The company swept award after award at international expos from 1892 onward, and attempts at imitation became so numerous that Amaretti Virginia’s founder had the brand placed under the legal protection of the Kingdom of Italy in 1897. Today it has extended its range to other artisan delicacies like the Amaretti Virginia Cantucci.
