Amaretti Virginia

Amaretti Virginia pastries in collectible tins

From Amaretti Virginia this year, we have everything from the classic Panettone essential to every Italian Christmas table—check out the Lemon and the Pear and Chocolate for inspiration—to Rum and Limoncello Babas, small, sweet, liqueur-steeped yeast cakes that are just perfect served with fior di latte  gelato or a good-quality French vanilla ice cream.

Amaretti Virginia actually started out as a bakery back in 1860 in beautiful Sassello, not far from Genoa, where it quickly became famous for its soft Amaretti biscuits. Today, in addition to its artisan Amaretti, it also produces an assortment of pastries, beautifully packaged in a variety of sizes and formats (that “book” tin!) using the original graphics from the 1860s. The magnificent barrel tins in particular will make a special gift not just for their original contents but as beautiful and practical storage for generations of biscuits to come.

Rossella

Rossella’s jewel-like fruit jellies

There’s more nostalgia to be found in the fruit jellies and candy from the iconic Rossella brand. Originally founded in 1897, Rossella’s jellies have been a fixture of Italian childhoods for generations—although surely the grownups deserve the dark chocolate-covered jellies and the jewel-like assortments? Pop the vivid candy canes and lollipops into the top of Christmas stockings as a distraction while you steal your treat away. Either way, this delightful confectionary range really does have the feel of a different, slower-paced time.

Deseo Cantuccini

Deseo biscuits in their Xmas tin

Speaking of Christmas stockings and those last-minute gift boxes for your favourite foodies, our crunchy Deseo Cantuccini are not only stunningly presented but also made with the finest Italian ingredients using a recipe dating back to 1858 when the prize-winning bakery was established in Prato in the heart of Tuscany. With options from the traditional Tuscan PGI Cantuccini with almonds through to modern variations like Pistachio and Dark Chocolate or Candied Orange, Deseo’s artisanal Cantuccini are the perfect excuse for a five-minute coffee break from the festive season, or to accompany a dessert wine later in the evening. The Christmas tin is another great option for a gift on the go!

La Fabbrica

Dense and delicious La Fabbrica panforte

Now, for all those Panforte fans, we have the La Fabbrica range of this flat, dense, rich cake straight out of ancient Sienese tradition. Operating a few kilometres outside of lovely Siena, La Fabbrica Del Panforte is a small company using original recipes passed down from master bakers to create artisanal baked goods that are simple, straightforward, original and natural—according to them, just like the good folk of Siena. Each Panforte, from the dense and dark Nero Panpepato to the rich Fichi e Noci, is exquisitely wrapped, so that’s one less Christmas chore. Hint: because these Panforte are so rich, we recommend cutting a small slice at a time as the perfect side to a cup of coffee or a glass of wine for a quiet moment.

Antica Torroneria Piemontese

Buon Natale!
Each sweet truffle is individually wrapped.

Last but never least, ancient Italian confectioner Antica Torroneria Piemontese has been crafting its sweet truffles since 1865 but continues to explore new and delightful flavour combinations. Pistachio and raspberry, lemon and lime, ginger and cinnamon… the list goes on. Tartufi Dolci are born from exquisite ingredients—the PGI Piedmont Hazelnuts, for example, are bought in the shell from local farmers that the company knows personally and carefully toasted in small batches just before they are used in the truffle doughs. Each truffle is painstakingly shaped and cut by hand from the well-rested dough, then individually wrapped to preserve freshness and aroma. The Tartufi Dolci range is presented in boxes, tins and bags, as well as the option of large bags which can be broken up for POP displays that are sure to be a hit with customers looking for stocking fillers and those last-minute little expressions of appreciation—not to mention beautiful Christmas tree decorations!
