The light and fluffy Amaretti Virginia Lemon Panettone is delicious alternative to the traditional heavy Christmas pudding or cake. A truly seasonal sweet loaf, Panettoni are found on every Italian table at Christmas time, and Christmas visitors will reliably bring at least one along as a table gift. Amaretti Virginia’s artisan lemon variation adds a great zesty twist to this classic.
Amaretti Virginia was founded back in 1860 in beautiful Sassello, not far from Genoa. It first became famous for its fragrant Amaretti with their soft almond texture, with the bakery so well-known that it became a meeting place for locals and visitors alike and the square that it overlooked was referred to in postcards of the time as ‘Piazza degli Amaretti Virginia.’ The company swept award after award at international expos from 1892 onward, and attempts at imitation became so numerous that Amaretti Virginia’s founder had the brand placed under the legal protection of the Kingdom of Italy in 1897. Today it has extended its range to other artisan delicacies like the Amaretti Virginia Lemon Panettone.
